Weaving Connections and Celebrating Culture
Our first monthly kaumātua gathering kicked off today with a heartwarming and inspiring session of raranga, thanks to Te Ara Tupua and Ruapehu REAP. This event marked the beginning of a refreshed kaupapa for 2024, aiming to provide regular opportunities for our kaumātua to connect, create, and celebrate our culture.
Participants enjoyed the hands-on experience of weaving, learning traditional techniques, and creating beautiful pieces.
Today was not only an opportunity for our kaumātua to create beautiful works of art amidst laughter and the aroma of home baking, It was also an opportunity for attendees to experience and discuss the finalised histories App, Kura Te Wanikau Tūroa has been working on. This is a fantastic resource for sharing our stories with the next generation.
We will keep kaumātua updated as soon as the next event has been scheduled.
With colder months ahead, we'll ensure a warm, inviting space filled with aroha and vibrant kōrero.
Can't wait to see you at our next event!
