Kaumātua Christmas Celebration

More than 50 of our cherished kaumātua gathered at our Raetihi office for a special Christmas lunch, hosted by the wonderful Te Ara Tupua team. The day was filled with laughter, love, and true connection.

Our kaumātua were treated to a feast of delicious delicacies, including Kina, Tītī (mutton bird), Tuna (eel), and brawn (pigs head) — a true celebration of our whenua and culture.

They also enjoyed a fun Christmas-inspired quiz, followed by a korero from our Chair, Aiden Gilbert. Aiden spoke about the Treaty settlement process and updated our whānau on the Te Korowai o Wainuiārua trustee elections.

It was a day of manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, and whakawhanaungatanga — celebrating not just the festive season, but the strength and unity of our community. We are so grateful for each and every one of our kaumātua.
