On Waitangi Day, the launch of the highly anticipated augmented reality (AR) storytelling app ๐•‹๐•– ๐•’๐•™๐•š๐•œฤ ๐•  ๐•ฅ๐•ฆ๐•œ๐•ฆ๐•š๐•™๐•  ล ๐•Ž๐•’๐•š๐•Ÿ๐•ฆ๐•šฤ๐•ฃ๐•ฆa marked a significant milestone in preserving and sharing the rich histories of the Central Plateau iwi Uenuku, Tamakana, and Tamahaki. Developed in collaboration with iwi and community leaders, the app shares three captivating narratives that explore the deep whakapapa, challenges, and wisdom of our tลซpuna. The app serves as an educational resource for both kaiako (teachers) and ฤkonga (students), providing an interactive platform to engage with local Mฤori history and mฤtauranga Mฤori.

Three Captivating Narratives to Explore:

  1. OUR BEGINNINGS
Discover the celestial whakapapa of Uenuku ki Manganui-o-te-Ao, tracing the lineage of the Atua down through generations to the first human ancestors. This story reveals the wisdom, courage, and profound connection to the Ruapehu rohe that shaped the identity and traditions of Uenuku.

  2. THE BATTLE OF FIRE AND WATER
Experience the epic clash between Tarangata, the atua of fire, and the atua of water, Te Moana and Kiwa. The story uncovers how this mighty battle between opposing forces shaped the volcanic and oceanic landscapes of the region, leaving lasting impacts on the world we see today.

  3. THE GREAT DELUGE OF Tฤ€NE
Journey through the consequences of greed and disregard for the teachings of Tฤne, as a great flood reshapes the world. Discover how those who chose to listen to Tฤneโ€™s wisdom survived and how the enduring bond with the Patupaiarehe is forever etched in the collective memory of the people.
